ACID TEST, a local short film directed by Houston film director Jenny Waldo and filmed in Houston with a local crew has been selected to play at the Local & Fresh: Texas Shorts - Literally Short Film Festival in Houston on June 18. ACID TEST will be premiering in this festival setting where the director and crew can celebrate the event with their family, friends, contributors, and the community as a whole. It's especially significant to be included in this festival celebrating its Mexican roots, since the character of the mother in ACID TEST is Mexican-American.
ACID TEST tells the story of Jenny, a teenage girl who drops acid at a concert and returns home to her parents still feeling the mind-altering effects of the drug. The subsequent hallucinogenic, parental freak out disrupts Jenny's sense of family and ignites in her a new-found taste for rebellion. The film stars Juliana DeStefano, Patrick Sane, Mia Ruiz, Jasmine Balais, Steel Herrera, Jacob Hoving, and features
the music of Houston post punk band Giant Kitty from their debut album "The Stupid Stuff."
The Literally Short Film Festival runs June 14 through 18 and the Local & Fresh screening will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18. Can you think of a better way to celebrate Father’s Day, than with a film about an out of control teen, a strict paternal figure, a strong but empathetic and mediating maternal figure, and a family sticking together despite their mistakes, short comings, and differing views and personalities? It almost sounds like home, doesn't it? As an added bonus, there will also be a screening of NEXT EXIT, a short film Waldo produced two years ago, from writer and director Alberto Govela.
